Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Calling for the upset in Aqueduct 9 via #3 Lost Raven. Ditto #2 Cashel Rock in Fair Grounds 8.

Yesterday’s Activity:

Track (Win Mutuels $20+/Gettable)

Aqueduct (3/2) — Race 1 firster Tiz Long Gone takes the opener at $34.20; the connection-line numbers of 20pc/12pc/18pc were just fine, though the public tout probably would not have been possible because of another horse who appeared to be a legitimate fave — the operative word being ‘appeared’. Then in Race 6, Collin’s Smile could not be selected due to a 6-1 morning line — too low for the touters; however, the 12-1 odds in real life, in a race deemed contentious by the V6 Betting Line, along with a robust 89 in the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, would have been a strong push toward the wager.

Delta (4/½) — The tricky call came in Race 7: Zarbs Early Bird. Top of the conventional V6 Betting Line at Fair Odds of 3-1, yet with nothing in support in terms of LifeLiner. Now what? ’Zarbs won and paid $41.60, a stunning victory for the Old Guard.

Fair Grounds (2/0) — Sunday’s parades include the Mystic Krewes of Carrollton and Alla (both Uptown) and the Mystic Krewe of Barkus (woof! woof!) in the Quarter.

Golden Gate (0/0) — Here’s the Raiders, maybe on the move to Las Vegas. Before that, Hyper Bowl L.

Gulf (3/0) — Jaro Jagr, 44 in two weeks’ time, not only still in the league, but still an All-Star.

Sam Houston (2/1) — At the least the gettable one was the higher-priced issue: sole selection Jolie Mon in Race 5, $62-even. Dead-bottom of the conventional Betting Line in a contentious race, ’Jolie’s bare-minimum 80 in the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis was enough.

Los Alamitos (1/0) — Corey Perry represents Anaheim in NHL All-Star Game(s).

Laurel (2/1½) — Knacque ($21.20 in Race 7) was the same scenario as the horse in the Delta commentary above. Race 3 winner Vim, $28.60, had the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis credentials (83), but the Betting-Line dynamic suggested the race was not contentious. Oh, well.

Mahoning (0/0) — Brandon Saad representing Columbus in NHL All-Star Game(s).

Oaklawn (1/1) — Dual Qualifier Prime Number, publicly third-touted in Race 4, had the LifeLiner numbers (obviously, if he’s a Dual Qualifier) in a contentious race, 8-1 on the morning line; Prime Number paid $26.40 to win.

PennNat (1/0) — Three from Penna. teams are participating in NHL All-Star Game(s).

Santa Anita (1/1) — Publicly touted first-timer Shy Carmelita wins at $26.20; top of the Betting Line and possessing a connection-line of 21pc/20pc/32pc.

Tampa (2/1) — Tiger Blood, Race 8 winner at $30-straight, was a firster with a qualifying connection-line: 13pc/14pc/N/A. However, the public tout was missing due to being buried too far down the conventional Betting Line. Don’t ask.

Turfway (0/0) — While watching today’s NHL All-Star Game(s), why not enjoy any of the fine Kentucky sippin’ whiskeys available from the James B. Beam Distilling Co., Clermont, Ky.?

Turf Paradise (0/0) — By now, we all know the story of John Scott, member of the Arizona Coyotes when named as an NHL All-Star Game(s) captain; the distinguished Mr. Scott is now a player in the minor-league system of the Montreal Canadiens.
