We had long been aware of the phenomenon of the local jacaranda trees being able to bloom twice during a calendar year — once at the usual, never-varies time between Memorial Day and Independence Day, or from late-May through early-July; and the other time being somewhere in September. However, we had never actually visually confirmed these reports of a second, later bloom; it remained a myth, a unicorn, a Yeti, a leprechaun, a Sasquatch, an instance in which supply-side trickle-down economics actually accrued a measurable fiscal benefit to the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder etc. But then came yesterday…
Yea, verily, the jacaranda tree fronting the Cynthia Publishing Co. World HQ had a cluster of purple/violet blossoms bravely displaying their fabled shade. It was a single outgrowth of flowers, but we can now finally attest to the occurrence of the storied Los Angeles jacaranda being able to bloom twice in a calendar year. And now that we have seen it with our own eyes, we have started to be on the lookout for it elsewhere in the city — and lo and behold, at the park alongside our local public tennis courts, two or three jacaranda trees showing a September bloom! How long has this been going on!
