Your Saturday Stakes Sweep: August 27, 2011

OK, Ancient Spa fans! What about that Travers?

It’s on the free page, Race 12, along with Race 8, the Grade II Ballston Spa, and Race 10, the Grade I Ballerina. If that’s not a stakes sweep for ya, we have a nice little Hurricane we’d like you to meet…

We take that back! There can be no joking about heavy weather. Very sorry. Also at the Swampatoga today is the Grade I King’s Bishop, Race 11, and the great #7 Uncle Mo will deserve favoritism if he’s fit to fire.

But wait, there’s more! If three stakes from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., don’t do enough for yourself, here’s a further trio from the great Calder Race Course, Miami Gardens, Fla. Races 7, 8 & 11 are the Seacliff, the Fla. Stallion Susan’s Girl, the Fla. Stallion Affirmed. That brings the stakes sweep count on the free page to 6. Half a dozen. Three-plus-three of the other!

Prohibitive fave in the works in the second at Canterbury, Race 2, MTA Stallion Auction: #3 SAMendra. Likewise in the fourth there, via #2 Bert’slittlesister. Sprint to the windows posthaste; perhaps the odds won’t be depressed too much between now and post time.

Quite a different scenario at Hoosier, Race 7, the Brickyard, where pole-position seems more like a burden than a boon. In it, we shoot for the Bonkers-type box of Al Unser IV & Chris Economacki Sr. — er, make that #5 Paws Prince & #3 Liepers Fork. Regardless of the outcome there, we’ll hoist a glass bottle of milk in the Winner’s Circle. Or is that Victory Lane?

Happy motoring! And, of course, best wishes for a prosperous Saturday.
