We all know about art-rock, art-damaged rock. Here’s some lit-damaged rock. See if you can pick-up which famous era of letters is suggested by the song’s mood & allusions…
Yup, you guessed it! The Lost Generation, continental Europe between the two World Wars, Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Fitzgerald. Lots of drinking, lots of heartbreak & alienation & disaffection & disaffectation. Anyone who’s taken Modern Literature at university will be able to pin this down!
As well, the clinching lines:
The children love them till they
Sink and say, ‘Hagame uno mas!
Esos son muy cool!’
¡ESOS SON MUY COOL!
P.S. Extra for Thoroughbred experts at the 2:25 mark: proper use of the word ‘blinkers’. Thank Allah that The Judybats did not use ‘blinders’! Good job, Judybats!
BestLine Racing Society Recap:
Prior to this evening’s last-track-standing, it was the unorthodox lineup (owing to poor weather, bad fields, other assorted ugliness) of Oaklawn, Sunland, Golden Gate, Turfway & Chas. Town.
The Hot Springs, Ark., opener went to the aptly named #2 January Jubilee (.200 Win Prob / 4.00-1 Fair Odds / 5.00-1 Premium Odds) at $17.60.
The Albany, Calif., opener went to #5 My Dad Is Thirsty (.197 / 4.08 / 6.11) at $20.20; completing your winning $226-even exacta was #1 Dark Mystery (.246 / 3.07 / 3.88), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $59.63. In the finale, lousy with firsters, #4 Book Em Tamo (.590 / 0.69 / 1.03) nabbed the victory at $13-even.
At Sunland Park, N.M., #6 Rocky Bar Six (.150 / 5.67 / 8.33) took Race 8 at $18.60, which was 6¢ shy of the premium price of $18.66; however, we cannot judge you harshly if you decided to sacrifice those half-dozen centavos upon the Altar of the God of Doing Business Via the Parimutuels — you got, after all, that same 8-1 you were after! We report, you decide!
