It’s always a suboptimal day when rain falls on swampy Swampatoga Swamp, in upswamp New Swampork. They hold the main-track-only hosses in, scratching them only after the first race has gone off; then they take the late-card grass events off that surface completely. It’s just something we love to complain about. We complain and complain about this, and the only real response, as always, comes from Credence Clearwater Revival: WHO’LL STOP THE RAIN?
Still some races outstanding from Del Mar, where precipitation is an abstraction and off-the-turf races simply are not considered, at this time of year, anyway.
