Here’s your Song of the Day, courtesy of THE BRETHREN (plus one Twisted Sister).
The entire album casts the proper mood of the whole era that began in late-2016 and continues, unfortunately, to this day. We all know what the ‘brethren’ refers to, a certain brand of toxic masculinity and moldy patriarchy, or else more specifically to the judicial branch of the federal government. This song feels like how Brett Kavanaugh made it through his confirmation (so-called) hearings.
Earlier in the album, there’s the line ‘Men are scum, I won’t deny’, and when Mr. Malkmus sings it, you know which side he’s agreeing with. (Hint: not his own.)
Then there’s other dystopian constructions on this record, like ‘come before the lash’, ‘the execution tree’, ‘kick off your jackboots / it’s time to unwind’ (in reference to the police in a song about the homicide perpetrated on Freddie Gray in Balto.), so many more.

Finally, whom do you think of when you hear this lyric?
Gonna get it when it‘s hot
Come and get it, ready or not
It fits in your grip, such a feminine trip
Revel in the rubber pavilion
Also part of the lyrics:
You know you should be blushin’
To a hue of Robitussin
