Broiling

Just past the bottom of the 1 p.m. PDT hour here in Studio City / La-La Land / Upper Nichols Canyon, and we’re touching today’s forecast high temperature of 91°. The humidity is a scratchy 23 percent, with the cloud cover a nonexistent 4 percent. The UV Index is 8, and your barometric pressure is 29.97 inHg and holding steady. From the hot & brilliant West, good afternoon now. Good afternoon this time!

One good one so far from Tampa, Race 4, in which you had the following undeniably contentious setup:

#6 Libertalia (.185 win prob / 4.41-1 Fair Odds / 5.49-1 Premium Odds)
#3 Judge Judith (.176 / 4.68 / 5.82)
#4 Tiz Nena (.162 / 5.17 / 7.64)
#9 Magic Mikaela (.160 / 5.25 / 7.75)
#1 Macrelletta (.150 / 5.67 / 8.33)
#8 Tea’s Dream (.126 / 6.94 / 10.11)

The rest of the field had individual win probabilities below what random chance would suggest. But look at the top six here separated by a scant 6 points on the win probabilities!

Four win-overlay wagers in the hunt (Nos. 3, 4, 9, 8), with #4 Tiz Nena winning at  $18.80 straight-up. #9 Magic Mikaela was the runner-up, at 12-1, and the perfecta returned $183.60, for $2; the premium return was $133.70. #3 Judge Judith was third, with the triactor coming back $432.40, for $1.

Later, there’s a less-spread-out contentious affair at ParXXX 11:

#8 Frank N Ducky (.208 / 3.81 / 4.77)
#4 Gimme a Jameson (.199 / 4.03 / 5.03)
#5 Dancing Dragon (.168 / 4.95 / 6.14)

For the less-risk-averse, Turf Paradise 9 has this as the strongest combined absolute-relative selection:

#9 Diamond Rim (.304 / 2.29 / 2.95)

The ’Rim is 10 points clear on the win probabilities in this one.

Stay cool!
