Over at Mahoning yesterday, it was Races 1, 3, 6 & 7 coming up as playably (playably?) contentious. Race 3 had one overlay. Race 6 had two overlays, including the runner-up at 10-1. Race 7 had two overlays, including the runner-up at 34½-1. And Race 1 had three overlays, including the 10-1 winner. Yay.

Unlike many of our fellow bourgeoisie handicappers, we don’t just stay safe on the Coasts for the Class-A Tracks and races. We boldly go (!) to the Flyover States, land in them, hit the wide-spot-in-the-road tracks (though they are becoming all glammed-up as adjuncts to full-blown casinos now offering table and electronic gaming), no maiden-claimer or $3,500-nonwinners-twice race too small for our consideration. Opportunity is where you find it, whether at Santa Anita (are they racing yet?) or Fonner Park. Yea, verily, this is the proper way to do things: scan the dozens or hundreds of opportunities daily and let the chances come to you, without forcing your ideology and classical factors futilely on places where they might not matter.
