You know, we grew up in Old Rimrock Mendham, N.J., for a few years early on, and the New York Beisbol Mets were our first love. We wept when Gil Hodges died, and that was at age 4 or 5 for us! Yikes. Anyway, the names are just as vivid now as 46 yrs. ago: Seaver, Matlack, Koosman, Gary Gentry, Tug McGraw, Buddie Harrelson, Jerrie Grote, Duffie Dyer, John Milner, Rusty Staub. Beisbol gets in your blood, and it is a good condition to have until the end.

Going to Mahoning: Races 1, 3, 6, 7. But, having moved to the Mississippi part of New Jersey in 1974 and remaining there through 1991, of course the Phils are our team always, though Bryce Harper doesn’t seem to embody that blue-collar ethic the city loves. John Kruk, yes; Bryce Harper? Maybe not?
