If you don’t have the patience for this clip, scrub on over to the 2:00 mark for the money shot.
All through this episode of the original Hawaii Five-O, the dialogue concerning ‘the syndicate’ was stiff and labored, especially when they kept referring to hired gun Mr. Hirsch here as ‘the Detroit Hitter’. The Hawaiians in this episode, Chin-Ho and Ben, could not stop quaking in fear when mentioning ‘the Detroit Hitter’. The Detroit Hitter! Oh, the humanity! Nonetheless, it’s a great episode just for the whole notion of ‘the syndicate’ and ‘the Detroit Hitter’ and, of course, hired gun Mr. Hirsch angrily telling McGarrett to ‘Ram it!’.
Here’s another ‘Ram It’, probably more appropriate to what’s going on for your ’murrikan Gridiron Throwball activity today. Maybe if you’re from the East Coast and you see something like this in the 1980s, it’s the sort of thing that makes you hate La-La Land for a long, long time. But, having checked-out here nearly 30 yrs. ago now, we can never leave, obviously, and La-La Land has bestowed upon us its numerous charms many times over — we surrender. But if you were a kid from the East Coast in the 1980s and you saw this video, you would grow up hating La-La Land, for sure, and chanting ‘Beat L.A.’ whenever possible. More largely, however, what ever happened to the saxophone in modern popular music? Thanks, Kennie G. Thanks, Obama!
