Big daily-double alert! Big daily-double alert!
Not one of these $5 jobbies, that’s for certain. Scrub on over to the Belmont Park for today, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017. Go ahead and turn your attention to Races 7 & 8.
How did the Race 7 look to yourself? A lot of mopes were strong on the morning-line fave named Phi Beta Express; to them, he was the key (get it?) to the mutuels here. Indeed, even the conventional All-In-One V6 Betting Line was strong for the Phi Beta Express train: atop the standard Betting Line, based on the last-race paceline selection, Fair Odds of 2-1. What to do?
’Phi Beta was your even-money fave. But as we have been researching and tracking, we want that so-called picket-fence to prop up any favorites we respect. (The ‘picket fence’ concept comes from a talk the outstanding Dr. Jm. Cramer, Red Leader of the HDW, gave some years ago. The ‘1s’ in his preferred output referred to the top-ranked horse in a given category, and these ‘1s’ resembled the pickets in a picket fence; he liked those horses whose output rankings looked like a picket fence.)
Back to ’Phi Beta, then. He had a picket for his top ranking on the Betting Line — and no further pickets. Not much of a fence there.
Now, no pickets anywhere for Skyler’s Scramjet, but he was a just-barely-there 81 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis. And he did figure up-close for at least the opening two furlongs. The toteboard blinked at 30-1. He won by 1 at $63-even.
Race 8 had a truly bad fave going, Newport Breeze, who was no better than sixth in any of the ‘Big 3’ categories (Betting Line, LifeLiner Speed, LifeLiner Spread). On the other hoof, Held Accountable was atop the Betting Line and a second-best 85 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis. She won by 2¼ at $21.40. The $2 daily double paid $604, probably not enough when you combine 30-1 and 9-1. Somebody, stop hammering these doubles! Thank you.
Later, the nightcap at Woodbine looks wide-open. We have three 8-1 or higher horseys on the morning line to consider. Maybe they’ll sync-up with yours. Maybe we’ll tell you about, lose or win or draw. Happy hunting!
