First Post: Monday, January 2, 2017

Some are saying this could already be Goal of the Year in fútbol, and there are still 364 days left in 2017. Incroyable! Ladies & gentlemen, Monsieur Olivier Giroud…GIROUD!

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: One today at Aqueduct, but no advisories here. Regrets, or, more likely, congratulations!

Yesterday’s Activity:

Track (Win Mutuels $20+/Gettable)

Aqueduct (1/0) — Second Ave. Subway now open to public.

Fair Grounds (2/0) — New Orleans’ first homicide of 2017 reported in Mid-City.

Golden Gate (2/1½) — Race 8 was contentious, but only High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads could muster affection for Luvuryan, 84 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis; she rallied like the champion she should have been, winning by a clean neck at $22.80. Race 9 also was contentious, and Old-School Champeens had dibs on Gold Finga, Fair Odds of 5-1; she won by 1¾ at $20-even. The pastiche natural double paid $241.40 (for $2). Good work.

Gulf (3/2) — Race 8 was contentious, but only High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads could go Abu Dhabi with Dubai Bob, 84 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis; he went gate-to-wire to win by 3 at $28.60. In Race 10, not contentious, all comers were in on the drive for Dual Qualifier Fifty Five (93, 90), top pick on the V6 Betting Line at Fair Odds of 9-5; she rallied hard, though, to win by a clean half-length at $30.20. Good work.

Los Alamitos (0/0) — Host Ducks edge Philalala in a shootout, 4-3; Ryan Kesler had a hat-trick for Anaheim.

Laurel (2/1) — The opener was contentious, but only High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads were not fooled by Discreet Deceit, 89 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis; she raced ribcage-to-wire anyway, winning by 3 parts of a length at $21.60. Good work.

Keystone (2/0) — See Los Alamitos commentary.

Portland (1/0) — Trail Blazers beat host Minnesota, 95-89; Portland’s C. J. McCollum led all scorers with 43 pts.

Santa Anita (2/½) — Race 2 was contentious, but only Old-School Champeens had the Fair Odds of 4½-1 on Holograeme, who won by 1¼ at $24.20. Good work.

Sunland (3/2) — Race 4 was contentious, but only High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads set sail on Laycock Bay, good enough on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis; he led by the quarter-pole and won by 2¾ at $23.60. In Race 7, also contentious, Hunterwood’s bare-minimum 80 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis was sufficient for High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads; he rallied to win by 5 at $35-straight. Good work.

Tampa (1/1) — Race 8 was not contentious, but High-Octane Chancers and Progressive-Minded Eggheads deemed Little Cherie attractive enough, courtesy of her 89 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis; she was a stalking-horse throughout, winning by a clean neck at $24.60. Good work.

Turfway (1/0) — Fire damages Falmouth church.
