First Post: Monday, January 18, 2016

All right, all right, ya Left Wing Extremists! As we did for yourselves on the Labor Day Holiday ‘First Post’, here’s some remembrance of your favorite American Martyrs. Today is for the Left Wing, same as Labor Day is. One day again for the Left.

Free ones: Rundown…

Gulfstream Park Proper 6, 7, 8, 11
Santa Anita 4, 5, 6, 7, 9

Pay-side (Weekday/Weekend): Today…

Fair Grounds 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Golden Gate 1, 3, 4
Sam Houston 5, 7, 8, 10
Laurel 7, 9
Mahoning 7
Oaklawn 4, 5, 6, 8
Turf Paradise 5, 6, 7, 8

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Oaklawn 8 on the pay-side.

Yesterday’s Activity:

Track (Win Mutuels $20+/Gettable)

Aqueduct (1/0) — Blueshirts fall to Caps.

Fair Grounds (2/1) — Race 6 decimation (off the turf, down to 6 runners) still could have been gotten via Carolyn’s Cactus ($33.20) if you were willing to downplay seemingly invincible odds-on choice; ’Carolyn had an OK LifeLiner Speed Column analysis rating. Perhaps this one was reserved for high-octane chancers only.

Golden Gate (3/1) — Race 5 was not impossible, despite the winner’s paying $63.20 in a 6-horse lineup. No public touting from this corner, since the conventional V6 Betting Line had a strong top pick that seemed to deem the race as noncontentious. Still, the high-octane chancers would have simply ripped the rearview mirror from the windshield and depressed fully on the accelerator. They would have gone beyond the speed limit to land on Pocket Prince, three-deep on the Betting Line, Fair Odds of 3½-1 — noncontentious race be damned! For added excitement, Pocket Prince gave them a sufficient 83 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis. Sorry there was not a public pick for this guy, but the high-octane chancers were not going to be held back. Good for them — this time.

Gulf (2/1) — Sorry for not providing the Race 5 winner: late posting-time! Ah, well. You would have had it, though, even if you were not a high-octane chancer. The race was blatantly contentious and Skirts On Fire had a Fair Odds mention of 6-1 on the Betting Line. As well, the morning line on her was 8-1. Finally, ’Skirts had the best LifeLiner Speed Column and LifeLiner Spread Column analysis numbers in the field. Yup. You would have had him even as a zero-octane deliberatist, if that indeed is a word or a case can be made for it to be used this one time.

Los Alamitos (0/0) — First Freeway Faceoff of the season, and it goes to the Los Angeles Big-League Ice-Hockey Team, 3 goals to 2 over the franchise from Anaheim in the O.C.

Laurel (3/1) — Sorry no public tout here, but in retrospect Race 7’s I O Ines could have been had. Though the race was not contentious (according to the Betting Line, anyway), the LifeLiner Speed Column and LifeLiner Spread Column analyses were all over the place — there were no numbers in the 80s in either column! One of the dual-70-type horseys on both measures was I O Ines, and she paid $34-straight. High-octane chancers had the opportunity, at least.

Oaklawn (1/1) — This one was a public tout, Race 8, Streamline, $32-even. A contentious race, a just-sufficient 80 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, and even methane-powered heifers moseying along without the benefit of gasoline-powered, internal-combustion engines would have reached the finish line in time.

Santa Anita (1/0) — See Los Alamitos commentary.

Sunland (0/0) — New Mexicans are spoiled for choice next Sunday: they can root for a neighboring state in each Conference Final (Ariz., NFC; Colo., AFC).

Tampa (1/0) — Lightning still viable, even with Drouin trade rumors.

Turfway (4/1) — Only Race 6 Gretsie could be had via a contentious race-shape plus the minimally qualifying 80 in the LifeLiner Spread Column. Sorry.

Turf Paradise (0/0) — Larry Fitzgerald receives good-karma award for best wishes on national television to ailing sportscaster; better than dabbing, yeah?
