Writing = solitary

Good to play the races alone, too. Keep your own counsel, etc.

Free ones: Rundown…

Gulfstream Park Proper 2, 5, 6, 7, 9
Los Alamitos Thoroughbreds (Daytime) 5, 7, 8

Pay-side: Today…

Fair Grounds 1, 3, 8, 9, 10
Hawthorne 4, 9
Laurel 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9
Sunland 6, 8, 10
Tampa 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10
Turfway 1, 2, 6, 8, 9

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Two on the docket, both in the Pelican State of Luzianne. Race 7 at Fair Grounds could be a two-horsey showdown between #3 Bim Bam and #6 Grand Contender. In the nighttime it’s the eighth at Delta, and #6 Esther Carl may run better than most will suspect.

Yesterday’s Activity: All right, all right, ya crazy Gulf Park fansz. Take it easy!

Race 6 was won by the Coalminer, Triple Threat Horsey at Fair Odds of 7-5 on the noncontentious conventional V6 Betting Line and a good-enough, joint-top 81 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis. Went off at 3-1, bet way down from the 8-1 morning line, returning $8-even to the Company Store. Thanks, ya wise-guy Hallandale-loversz. Thanks a lot!

Much less interest shown in Race 10 there, the finale. In it, Clapham Heights was your 2½-1 toteboard fave, bet down from 10-1 on your morning line. Hoo-boy. No go as a win wager, but should you try to beat him? After all, he was top of the V6 Betting Line at a mild 4-1 Fair Odds; he also shared, with two other runners, the top LifeLiner Speed Column Analysis score in the field, 95. What to do?

First Bonkersmate Too Wild for Words, 20-1 on your morning line, stayed like that in real life, getting away at 22-1. A respectable fourth-rated on the Betting Line (no Fair Odds, though) and with a solid 90 in the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, ’Words did what he needed to do, winning by 1¼-lengths and paying $46.80 up top. ’Clapham finished ninth.

If you attempted to defeat the chalk all the way here, your top three finishers were OK on LifeLiner, with the exacta coming back $412.80 and the trizacta yielding $1,513.10, for $2 and for $1, respectively.

In between those two races, it was the eighth, and Bonkersmate Riding the River nearly did it, finishing a good runner-up second, beaten less than 2 lengths, at 22-1. This was had the benefit of a much clearer false-vulnerable fave in Bashart, 2½-1 on your morning line and 13-10 when the gate opened. Bashart was only fourth-best on your LifeLiner Speed column analysis and was not highly regarded on the conventional V6 Betting Line either.

Covering Riding the River with the win-underlayed but LifeLiner-competitive 4½-1 winner Aripeka resulted in a $219.20 saver exacta. The show-horse, 5-1, also did OK on LifeLiner, and if you had the conviction that Bashart was just not up to it for any of the vertical-exotics spots at an underlaid and overplayed 13-10, you got back $695.80 for a dollar in the triperfecta.

Win, lose or draw, some really lovely contentious and wild stuff going on at this festive time of year at the Gulfstream Park Proper. Just lovely.
