R.I.P., Lorenzo Semple Jr.

Every day on WPIX-TV, Channel 11 from New York City, watching these two in the Dynamic Duo suffer at the hands of merciless villains, being thrown into near-death torture devices of so giant a scale as to render them practically religious, like outsize statuary of the Crucifixion or Pietà. Wanted the Utility Belt so bad! Very disappointing to have the Halloween costume render it only as a design on the cloth.

Ah, well. Thank you, Mr. Semple, for the hours of innocent entertainment. Batman & Robin may have had to endure close calls and narrow escapes, but at least it always ended badly for the outlaws, not like on the TV shows going on today.

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: None today, but we got a good one going on tonight at the Santiago Bernabéu between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. These two met in the quarterfinal round of the Champions League last year, and they repeat their matchup in the same stage of the competition this year. A year ago, it was Dortmund prevailing, so Real will be seeking revenge this time around. Of course, we can’t root for Real Madrid; it’s like rooting for Gen. Franco. As well, Borussia Dortmund are the blue-collar, under-budget overachievers of European fútbol. Jürgen Klopp #1 alwayszzz! However, no one will be able to conquer Cristiano Ronaldo’s hair.

Yesterday’s Activity: Yeah, ‘Tuesday Sniping’! A couple of good ones yesterday, April Fool’s Day, no kidding! As always, hope you had ’em!
