Ironical. On Flag Day 2013, the United States Open Golf Competition is being contested on a course where there are baskets atop the pins. Main Linersz! Snobsz! Agnes Irwin! Haverford! Episcopal!

Free ones: Rundown…

Calder 6
BFHollyPark 3, 5, 8

Pay-side: Today…

Arlington 4, 6, 8
Churchill 11
Golden Gate 3
Louisiana 4, 8
Lone Star 8
Woodbine 7, 8

Sparse. Only one Bonkers-type scenario in the bunch! Yow! Thanks, derecho. Thanks a lot.

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Two at Belmont. No feeling for either.

Yesterday’s Activity: As always, Welcome to The Home of The Runner-Up Finish, this time led by Your Sister (not your sister, but the horse named Your Sister) in the fifth at Calder.

Your Sister was 20-1 on the morning line and 28-1 when the bell rang. It looks like she had a free and easy lead well inside the final furlong but then got run down late to miss by a dirty neck to the 20-1 winner. Fracking hydraulic fracking! Nope, the winner did not show up on LifeLiner. No saver, no backing into the ginormous perfecta. Frack! Khaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn! (P.S. Never saw Star Trek in any of the television versions, except when Scottie fell in love with Moira and there was a Spring Wilding in which Spock was going to Rape the Sabine Women, and also the Trouble With The Tribbles and maybe the one where Kirk was finally going to get murdered in mano-a-mano desert combat against the Gorn. Was really, really, really rooting for the Gorn in that one. Really rooting for the Gorn. Why couldn’t they have let the Gorn killed Kirk and then dipped some bread (or whatever Gorn eats) in Kirk’s blood before ingesting? Why not? So, like, that’s maybe four or five episodes of a TV show that some people have seen each of the 100+ episodes at least 15 times each. Never saw any of the LeVar Burton or Brent Spiner or Jonathan Frakes remakes, and never saw any of the original motion pictures when Lennie Nimoy & Will Shatnersz were still the stars. Only saw Zach Quinto as Spock, and Zach Quinto is cool; Zach Quinto OK. We are in full approval of Zach Quinto as Spock.)

Another great runner-up: LS 2, Explosive Argument, 12-1 morning line and 12.80-1 at the off. The 2½-1 winner was the fave as well as the top Betting Line & top LifeLiner guy, with the saver exacta returning $88. Default exacta box between the only two LifeLiner qualifiers.

Miracle Lake won the LS opener, $9.20, and 10-1 morning line. Thanks a lot. Thanks a lot.
