Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Belmont today, a trio, but the derecho has already ruined two of those. Probably too good in Race 3 there, the Lotka, is #3 My Happy Face. Stay dry!

Yesterday’s Activity: Two Susans was a winning firster at a bet-down 6-1 (from a 12-1 morning line) in Bel 5. The connection line on her was 24-18-33, more than adequate. But instead of the forecast $26 win mutuel, $15.60 had to be settled on.

Runner-ups, of course, this time led by the great Jost Van Dyke ran third, beaten less than a neck, in AP 6. ’Jost was 10-1 on the morning line and went off at 11-1. He rallied like the V6 LifeLiner (scoreline of 72-73-92) said he would. Beating him to the wire were two entrymates, the coupling favoured at 6-5. So though ’Jost finished third, he did complete the exacta. Yes, both those choices were LifeLiner Speed Qualifiers, and the saver exotic was $43.80.

Good news, not-so-good news in WO 3, in which straight-up tout Stage Trip, 8-1 morning line but 16-1 actual, got to the wire first. Yes! Except that another horsey also got to the wire at the same time. No! Instead of an all-alone CAN$35.80 win mutuel, it was a split $18-even. Not quite the same!
