Good Friday 2013

Salvador Dalí. Surreal, surely, but this painting shows a powerful realism evoking Caravaggio. Compare this image with the Ocean Rain album-cover art. Haunting. To all the faithful, a solemn Good Friday.

R.I.P.

Also coming to an end on this Good Friday 2013 is the BBC NewsPod podcast. It was a weekday half-hour programme that was decidedly British in tone and content. From it, we were able to follow the Jimmie Savile scandal, the Leveson Inquiry, cuts to the National Health and their effect on visits to GPs, the British linguistic construction of being “in hospital” rather than “in the hospital”, drink driving, High Street, lorries, petrol, motorways, A-levels, council flats, housing benefit, Prime Minister’s Questions, back-benchers, the whole lot. NewsPod, you’ll be missed.

Free ones: Rundown…

Aqueduct 6, 9
Gulf 5, 8
Santa Anita 3, 5, 8

Pay-side: Today…

Tampa 4, 8, 10
Fair Grounds 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Hawthorne 7, 9
Oaklawn 4, 5, 6, 7
Turf Paradise 7, 9
Turfway 2, 5, 7, 10

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Two today, and the faves are strongly in play, it appears. In the Santa Anita feature, the Pasadena as Race 7, maybe a
cold-puncher’s scenario involving #6 Rosengold and #2 Mike Miceli.

Yesterday’s Activity: Sorry, La Salle. No good. SW Philly phloaters came up empty. Bye-bye, Ramon Galloway.
