Front Page Podcast, R.I.P.

Front Page Podcast, R.I.P.

Say what you want about the lamestream media, Sarah Heath, but it does serve its purpose: to wit, providing some semblance of reportage and facts and not just 100-decibel opinions and histrionic commentary. We learn important and (mostly) true things from it, like that there was a war in Korea in the 1950s that led to the formation of two states, North and South.

We woke up daily to the New York Times Front Page podcast for more than five years here, and it was just as natural and ritualistic as the morning constitutional or the first cup of coffee. It was a good way to find out what was in the paper before the eyes and brain were fully engaged, such as a top story or two, an oddball or human-interest item, the obituary of a bit-player on the scene. It was appointment listening, and after today it is consigned to memory. Vale!
