Your Saturday Stakes Sweep: April 2, 2011

You can’t force the VCU 3-ball if it just isn’t there.

Much as we’d love to hit trey after trey after trey, sometimes you simply don’t have the cards on the afternoon. This is precisely why Phil Helmuth and Annie Duke and Amarillo Slim and Nathan Detroit don’t win the five-card draw tourneys week after week. Ah, well.

There’s an obvious rocker in the 10th at Oaklawn, the Nodouble. #3 Comedero has only to overcome the extended time off; his rivals don’t appear worthy of the challenge. But that’s why they run ’em.

Over at the Turf Paradise, Race 2 is the Ariz. Stallion. We play against the morning-line fave, but only via the 2-1 morning-line second-choice, #3 Gotta Skedaddle.

For a hint of a price, try the longshot chance of #5 Ziva D. in the 10th at Fonner, the Mountain Dew Throwback Stakes. For a limited time only.

And if you can find some Strawberry or Banana Twinkies out there on the Hostess racks, take them first and ask questions later. Finding them is like capturing the Golden Snitch in Quidditch. Or something like that.

As always, best wishes for a prosperous Saturday!
