V6 Seminar in a Box devotees couldn’t have had much trouble with this diagnosis.

Last race of the day at Belmont, and the top issue on the Betting Line didn’t really make the grade in terms of a sufficient edge.

It was the sort of Betting Line pattern, easily identifiable, that demanded focus toward the top of the listings. To chase the overaly too far down the table would have been one of those unfortunate shark-drowning episodes. No good.

So the B horse came into play, fair odds 4½-1 yet better than 30-1 on the Elmont tote-a-board.

Sometimes they win, and the reward was slightly more than commensurate with the risk.
