Shirtsleeve temps pretty much always…

The warmer bits of autumn attempting to make one last stand in the coming week here in sunny Southern California. The latter part of the warmup, occurring a week from now, should be a Santa Ana event, given the forecast low relative-humidity numbers for those days. Continue reading

Good Saturday afternoon (PST), but not for your Tulane Green Wave Collegiate American Gridiron Throwball, which lost the AAC Conference Championship game to SMU today. Wave rippled-out, but it’s been a great year-plus for the program… Continue reading

Kevork K. Kanine gifted us a nice speed-oriented bicycle last Father’s Day, a 20-speed shifter with the skinnie tyres, the kind with the newfangled Presta valve. It’s a smooth ride, surely smoother than the decades-old cruiser-beater with the pedal brake we used to have to labor on. Now that swimming season is well & truly over, maybe cycling will be the cold-month cross-training replacement. It felt pretty good today! Continue reading

Last night was one for the books for your No. London Arse. The lads clinched the top stop in their Champions League Group B via a 6-nil larruping of Lens at The Emirates. Kai Havertz, much maligned during the first three months of his big-money move to the Gunners from Chelsea, has caught fire, and he opened the scoring here. #COYG Continue reading

Sweeping…

Here it is, a beautiful blue-sky day above your East (San Fernando) Valley from the vantage point of the Universal City Overlook along Mulholland Drive. It was about 65°F, with a stringent 25 percent relative humidity and a visibility rating of 28 mi., when this panorama was stitched together just after high noon in the crisp & picturesque Golden West. So, you can start to understand why, after checking-in to the proverbial Hotel (Southern) California, you can never leave — not voluntarily, anyway, unless you are one of those Attila the Hun edgelords simply making some kind of performative political/culture-war statement. Go right ahead and depart; enjoy the unbearable heat, freezing cold & rusty power grids in Tejas (Tejas!) or the swampy humidity, bugs & rampant social diseases breeding like crazy in Florida. …and lonely…

Yea, verily, the Cynthia Publishing Co. Executive Swimming Pool has been closed for the post-summer months for some weeks now, but we are also now starting to feel like ‘winter’s tuning-up’. Nighttime lows dipping into the mid-40s tonight; don’t you pity us out here in La-La Land? No, of course not! Nor should you. But we do miss swimming, which keeps the core strong & balanced and the shoulders broad & brawny! Continue reading
