Rice, Rice, baby…

Lost in the hoopla of yesterday’s throwball extravaganza was your No. London Arse’s 6-nil thrashing of host West Ham United. The screamer shown in today’s video lede was the final goal of the match, scored by this season’s marquee signing, Declan Rice…RICE! This was a belter!

BestLine Racing Society Nightcap:

There’s a lot that happened on this recently concluded trip to the tony ski-resort town of Aspen, Colo. — too much to relay blow-by-blow.

We’ve made it there three years’ running now, and the experience never disappoints. It’s way-different from what we live through daily here in La-La Land, what with its traffic and busy people and general rat-raciness. The drivers here are considerate, patient and generally in line with the posted speed limits. The people smile and are usually in good spirits on the slopes by day and in the après-ski hangouts at night.

But maybe it’s the surrounding mountains, those omnipresent peaks hitting elev. 10,000-ft. above sea level, unmovable, unflinching and, well, rocky. Then you throw-in all those trees, so many spruces, pines, firs and, well, aspens. Blanket the topography and forestland with the softest, most powdery snow, and no matter if you are at the foot of the gondola or the top of any of the four local mountains — Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass & Buttermilk — you are inspired, in open-mouthed awe of Mother Nature. As such, you begin to appreciate that you, your problems, your ego, your self, have found their proper place in the universe’s scheme of things. You shrink, but not in a way that diminishes you; on the contrary, only the made-up things that inflate you & puff you up, those are the things that go bye-bye at elevation here, and if you open your eyes and breathe through your nose and feel the cold and snow on your face, which is turned toward the east in the morning or pointed west in the afternoon, then you understand how to get over yourself.

We also have experienced this sort of awe at sea-level, watching the sun rise from the south shore of Kauai.
