A Philly Institution…

Friday, and for a long time in the Delaware Valley, and then later on via syndication, Friday meant ‘Friday with Frank’ as presented by the gentleman in today’s video lede: Mistah Sid Frank. His flagship station was the old WWDB-FM 96.5, a reactionary talk-radio outlet that undoubtedly was a precursor to the fashy AM radio of the 1990s and beyond. But on Friday night, and a couple of days later (via ‘Sunday with Sinatra’), it was going to be Sid Frank taking down the rhetorical temperature with the immortal sounds of what they used to call ‘easy listening’.

Done & dusted! On to Budapest!

Well, fútbol aficionados, your No. London Arse has advanced to yet another Cup final this season — after having lost in the finals of two domestic cup competitions in the past month — by defeating Atlético Madrid by the famous scoreline of 1-nil in this evening’s second leg of their Champions League semifinal, and winning the tie 2-1 on aggregate. Bullish on Broad Street

Yea, verily, your infra-underdawg Philalala Phlyers accomplished what most considered undoable: they beat the superior Pgh., Penna., Peng-a-wins by 4 games to 2 in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal of your 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs in the big-league ice hockey. The Flyers looked invincible after winning the first three games of the series; however, it was starting to feel a little shaky after The Pitt won Games 4 & 5 and seemed ready to take last night’s Game 6 in overtime, continually abusing the Phila. defense through the first 15 mins. of the extra period. Only the nonstop, last-gasp netminding heroics of Flyer goaltender Dannie Vladar kept the game deadlocked at nil. And then the magic happened, with the game- and series-winning goal coming with 3 mins. left in the overtime, completely against the run of play, on a post-ringing and scoreboard-dinging shot from Flyer defenseman Cameron York. Vladar, York & on to the Eastern Conference semifinals next week against the vaunted Carolina Hurricanes.
