Sunday was a good day for a couple of sportsball teams whose primary colors are red and white; adding to the goodness, razor-thin wins over their most hated ancestral rivals. In No. London, England, U.K., your Arsenal Football Club made a 68th-minute header by Gabriel stand-up for a 1-nil (‘one-nil to the Arsenal! one-nil…’) away victory over Spuds. A little later in the day, in the breakaway colony of Pennsylvania, in the politically seminal city of Philalala, your Phightin’ Phils, courtesy of a walk-off hit by J.T. Realmuto against the hapless Edwin Diaz, defeated the New York Baseball Metropolitans 2-1, taking the rubber match of the three-game series. #COYG #RINGTHEBELL!

Last night was the last show of the amphitheater subscription season. The great Dudamel, on his way slowly but surely to New York City though not before enjoying a long & deservedly fond sendoff from the Southern California faithful, was at the helm for a Mexican-themed program, the first half of which was orchestral fare from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. And in the second half, it was the wildly popular Natalia Lafourcade sending her thousands of fanaticos into raptures. In today’s snapshot lede, the evening’s two principals are shown sharing heartfelt words between numbers.

Sergio Mendes dead at 83 today. R.I.P. Vale!
