OK, sports fans! Your La-La Land Los Doyers are one win away from winning your 2024 World Series, and the starting pitcher (there’s that starting pitching again!) featured in today’s video lede contributed more than his fair share in helping his team secure victory in Game 3…
Walker Buehler, what can you say? Loves horse racing, is from the Blue Grass, a true genteel Southern Gentleman.
Over the course of this here Weblog’s history, we have mentioned Mr. Buehler more than a few times.
https://cynthiapublishing.com/hp_wordpress/?s=buehler
The first time was on Oct. 27, 2018, the day after the Dodgers won the longest game in World Series history, Game 3 in 2018, courtesy of Maxwell Muncy’s instant-win homer in the bottom of the 18th. Buehler was your starting pitcher that night, going 7 shutout innings and surrendering no walks while striking out 7 over 108 pitches.
The second time was on June 22, 2019, noting Buehler’s ridiculous effort (9IP, 0BB, 16K) while the team behind him barely scratched-out a win.
The third was during the 2019 MLB postseason, which always intersects with your Days of Awe from the religion of the Israelites, etc.
The fourth was probably the most emotional one. That was on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, the day after our first post-lockdown trip to Chavez Ravine. Looking back on that post, Buehler was mentioned as that game’s starting pitcher, but he did not perform to his usual high standard. But that post was a good one, even reading it some three-plus years later, lots of feeling & soul in that post. You might check it out.
The fifth was unusual, in that Buehler was mentioned, but only in preview of that evening’s forthcoming Dodger game. The lede was from the game from the night before, and it involved someone who is making big news again during this 2024 World Series: Freddie Freeman! Anyway, that post, from Tuesday, April 19, 2022, has archival homegrown video footage of a historic moment in Mr. Freeman’s career. Eerie!
The sixth mention of Buehler came on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. It also was a good post, even though, obviously, no baseball was being played at or around that time. The whole of Graf 2 of that post is Walker Buehler! And it kind of fits the whole theme of him, the Dodgers, this baseball season still taking place, etc.
Buehler is eligible to hit the market in free agency at the end of this World Series. You know he is quality, both on the pitcher’s mound and off. He has won us over with his actions as a pitcher and as a fellow Los Angeleno just out for a good dinner ahead of the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. We want him to stay, because he brings credit to his team & his adopted community. But if he departs, he departs with nothing but goodwill and the best of best wishes from all Dodger fans of the last six years. We root for him no matter what.
