New GoPro image-capture gizmo unwrapped, first new one since Hero 4.
The one we had been shooting with over the past 10 years or so was a bare-bones box, like a Raspberry Pi contrivance masquerading as a hi-def movie camera: no display, no feedback available on the device itself — basically a lens, a power button & a shutter button. The associated app was not much either: balky, crashy, frequently comatose. The batteries also were starting to become problematic.
But it nonetheless chronicled a lot of activities & voyages: Hawaii, Aspen, Israel, etc. And it was good enough.
This new one is like future-shock. For one, there’s no special housing needed to waterproof the camera. For another, there’s screens & feedback & touch-based input galore. Good battery life, and a much better app experience, too. We look forward to many good years of memory-making via this new camera. Smile!
