New Orleans royalty

An all-time banger. This is an absolute keyboard romp…

That’s Conniff, not goniff

Now, if you prefer the standard dixieland arrangement with the banjo, clarinet, trombone, cornet, acoustic bass, piano, drums, well, here’s a shockingly fluent & creditable version from none other than one the old-time champions of monotonous, 4/4-time, polite-society white-man’s music. Take a bow, Ray Coniff!

Here’s a gateway-drug-type horse for many of us oldsters from the Generation labeled X.

BestLine Racing Society Recap:

A few post-press-time connections to report from last night’s (Thursday’s) late action: At Chas. Town, W.Va., #7 Welling (.300 Win Prob / 2.33-1 Fair Odds / 3.00-1 Premium Odds) was winning Race 5 at $13-even. In the finale, which on this card was numerically Race 8, #4 Smokin Lady (.288 / 2.47 / 3.17) lit up the victory cigar at $11.20. At Grantville, Penna., #1 A Philly Thing (.230 / 3.35 / 4.22) won that Race 3 jawn for Wawa, cheesesteaks & hoagies at $10.40; granted, this was 4¢ shy of the premium price, but we cannot blame you if you decided to leave those four pennies as a tribute upon The Altar of The God of Doing Business Via The Parimutuels — we report, you decide. As well, your $26-even exacta was completed by #2 Bullitina (.423 / 1.36 / 1.84), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $23.96. At Etobicoke Int’l., #4 Onandonandon (.178 / 4.62 / 6.87) wonandwonandwon Race 5 at $26.60; completing your winning $137.30 exacta was #8 Moonbright (.223 / 3.48 / 4.38), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $73.92. In Race 7, #5 Destiny Ro (.224 / 3.46 / 4.36) was fated to visit the winner’s circle today at $15.20.

As for today (Friday), 12 tracks (minus your nightcap track) in-play.

Starting at Nisku, Calgary, Alta., for Race 3, in which #2 Firecracker Stand (.501 / 1.00 / 1.40) did not quite explode the toteboard in an $8.20 win.

At Old Hilltop, Balto., Md., #7 The Last Scip (.162 / 5.17 / 6.41) was first in Race 6 at $17.40.

At Altoona, Iowa, #4 Quiet I’m Not (.456 / 1.19 / 1.63) made enough noise to win Race 5 at $5.80.

At Arcadia, Calif., #6 Refocus (.274 / 2.65 / 3.38) was sufficiently sharp to take Race 3 at $11-even. Next race there, #3 Blazing Bardot (.247 / 3.05 / 4.67) won it for the immortal French siren named Brigitte at $15.40; your winning $88-even daily double had a premium price of $49.66. Finally, from Etobicoke Int’l., Race 5 saw #9 Country Living (.238 / 3.20 / 4.88) and #5 Summer Commandment (.361 / 1.77 / 2.32) combining on your winning $49-even exacta whose premium price was $32.40.
