One post-press-time connection to report from last night’s (Friday’s) late action: At Vancouver, B.C., #1 Miss the Hype (.269 Win Prob / 2.72-1 Fair Odds / 3.46-1 Premium Odds) did not miss the mark in a little-hyped $16.90 surprise.

Today (Saturday) was a big day in North American racing, in case you missed it.

Starting as we frequently do at Ozone Park, N.Y., for the opener there, in which #4 Gun Maestro (.295 / 2.39 / 3.07) won it for Geo. Zimmerman, Kyle Rittenhouse & Oscar Pistorius etc. at $9.20. In Race 9, #5 Leave No Trace (.234 / 3.27 / 4.98) won it for Leonard Cohen at $19.60.

Next stop: Cincinnati, and Race 4 there, which was won by #6 Granadica (.260 / 2.85 / 3.62) at $17.40. In Race 7, #2 Seau n’Tap (.380 / 1.63 / 2.16) won it for the late, lamented Lightning Bolt named Junior at $7.40.

Opening Night at Shakopee, Minn., where #3 Overly Lucky (.260 / 2.85 / 3.62) also displayed sufficient skill in taking Race 3 at $10.20.

In Louisville, Ky.’s Race 5, #2 Fan the Fire (.263 / 2.80 / 3.56) lit ’em up at $10.52; completing your winning $66.56 exacta was #1 Sutherland (.263 / 2.80 / 3.56), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $32.46.

From Stanton, Del., news that #4 Haileysfirstnotion (.301 / 2.32 / 2.99) was a winning one in Race 6 at $9.40; completing your winning $39.20 exacta was #6 Rocket Dragon (.230 / 3.35 / 4.22), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $31.21.

Race 8 on the Hallandale Beach, Fla., card had #5 Swirvin (.260 / 2.85 / 3.62) maintainin’ a sufficiently straight line to win at $9.60.

At Bensalem Twp., Penna., #6 Problems Abound (.169 / 4.92 / 7.28) had not enough of them to be denied in Race 1 at $16.60. Next race there, #1 Kate’s Golden Dude (.311 / 2.22 / 2.86) won it for HRH the Prince of Wales at $8-even.

Preakness 149 Day at Old Hilltop, Balto., Md., now, and the opener had #1 Irish Heartbeat (.303 / 2.30 / 2.96) and #8 Beltane (.257 / 2.89 / 3.67) combining on your winning $47.60 exacta whose premium price was $27.64. In Race 8, #3 Super Chow (.278 / 2.60 / 3.32) said ciao! to his foes at $10.40.

Low-priced-overlay alert out of Arcadia, Calif., in Race 4 there: #6 Magic Account (.444 / 1.25 / 1.70), a credit in the ledger at $6.40.
