Unchecked growth, the perpetual-motion hamster-wheel of late-capitalism consumerism, the superiority/inferiority mode of thinking, commodity-fetishization…it’s in there!
You listen to this, and you understand why fads are bad, why social-media-generated viral pheonomena and next-big-thing technology from alleged techno-saviors are nothing more than the flashes-in-the-pan that they are supposed to be — not just are they performative & mindless, they never take root in a meaningful, inside-job change. All good evolution & development is, as they say in the rooms, an ‘inside job’, and the outside world just can’t pull that lever in a lasting way. To wit: Be gung-ho for the Arab Spring, the ice-bucket challenges, your politically-themed avatars etc.; then when you come back a year or even six mos. later, more often than not, all those digitized, glass-tapping movements are lost to history!
Also heard in the rooms: ‘Stay in life’. The brain is necessary, but insufficient; your five senses are there to set yourself on the correct course.
Probably, but not entirely certainly, if you can help some people out without then seeking out any fame, notoriety or recognition for your efforts, that’s likely a decent way of living. As always, the ancient Hebrews had it right when they promoted anonymous philanthropy; principles before personalities! Ever heard that one?
