Eight is enough…

Next year, Hanukkah lights its first candles at sunset on Dec. 25, 2024! And the last of the eight lights gets kindled on the first night of 2025 — in other words, Christmas Day & New Year’s Day, perfect synchronization! Man, oh, Manischewitz — what a wine!

Also, as they say in the Hebrew language: dayenu, which pretty much translates to English as ‘enough’.

A couple of post-press-time connections from last night’s (Thursday’s) late action: In Race 2 at Chas. Town, W.Va., #5 Marshall Peanut (.500 Win Prob / 1.00-1 Fair Odds / 1.40-1 Premium Odds) got a leg(ume) up on his rivals at $8.80. In the Etobicoke Int’l. finale, #5 Forever Danish (.160 / 5.25 / 6.50) won it for Copenhagen at $16.10.

Today (Friday) it was Aqueduct, Laurel, Oaklawn, Tampa, Turfway & Woodbine.

From Laurel, Md., #7 Fizbo (.283 / 2.53 / 3.24) was not clowning-around in Race 8, coming home a (pretty) pennywise winner at $12.80.

At Hot Springs, Ark., #5 Play the Trumpet (.323 / 2.10 / 2.72) got down to brass tacks in a win in the opener at $10.40. Then in Race 4, #3 Redfield (.319 / 2.13 / 2.76) was in the black at $29.20; completing your winning $110.80 exacta was #8 Charleston (.384 / 1.60 / 2.13), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $17.27. N.B. Both those races, the opener and Race 4, were lousy with firsters; thank you! In Race 7, no firsters involved, #9 Lucky Boss (.204 / 3.90 / 4.88) acted like one at $23.60; completing your winning $123.80 exacta was #3 Luna Vieja (.163 / 5.13 / 7.59), with the premium price on that comboa (comboa!) being $83.83.

Going to Oldsmar, Fla., now, where #7 Sherlock’s Jewel (.223 / 3.48 / 4.38) won Race 8 for the Blue Carbuncle at $13-even. Then in the finale, #13 With Feeling (.194 / 4.15 / 5.19) and #10 Shamu (.250 / 3.00 / 3.80) combined on your winning $56.20 exacta whose premium price was $49.82.
