We were taught a footballing lesson by City tonight. Not much more to it than that.

And so the 2022-23 English Premiership title chase ended this evening with defending champeens Manchester City routing your visiting No. London Arse, 4-1.
Our teams, the Arse, the La-La Land Los Kings, began the week with much promise. A win tonight against Manchester City could have given the Arse the whip hand in the run-in to the title race; now it’s pretty much just playing out the string of the last five contests. Then the Kings went ahead 3-nil inside the first 20 mins. of Sunday’s game against visiting, villainous Edmonton; if they could hold on, the Los Angelenos would have a 3-1 series stranglehold over the Albertans. Instead, the Oilers fought all the way back to prevail in the overtime, 4-3. Then last night, another Kings loss last night put our ice-hockey heroes on the verge of elimination; no more margin for error. It could be over on Saturday.
So it is for us sports fans. None of this toxic sci-fi/cosplay fandom about who gets cast in what role, who directs whom in the sequel, whether a character is canon or not — all of these are merely one-off spectacles not played out for public consumption, and it’s much frothing and ado about nothing. Nope. For the politics/sportsball fans, their emotions are based on the up-and-down reality of results on the scoreboard, the concrete, not some ginned-up outrage over ridiculous matters. If you are going to have overreactions over something, at least overreactions in the sports/politics realm are tangible and reviewable, meaningful to real-world citizens, whereas overreactions in sci-fi/cosplay are just niche grievances for the droolers, lispers & other assorted sunlight-challenged mopes. Harsh, but probably fair! Maybe…
