Sometimes you need to elevate a little. After about two straight weeks of nonstop, media-drip sports-radio talk from WIP in Philalala, we had to take a break, especially owing to the Phillies mail-it-in loss to the hated Hotlanta Bravos in last night’s béisbol.
In our experience, this sort of elevation generally takes the form of listening to wall-to-wall classical music over the airwaves: KUSC here in sunny La-La Land is generally enough; but when we need to cleanse the palate completely, there’s only one choice: WQXR straight outta Manhattan.
One of the pieces we encountered was the music played in today’s video lede: the Waldheim Sonata for piano, by Beethoven, as performed in a 1956 RCA Victor recording by Vlado Horowitz. Vlado!
This was elevation but contained some of the manic agitation and nervy angst we are feeling this week as both Dodger & Phillies fans, along with Cowboys week coming up for the Iggles in the Sunday Night ’murrikan Gridiron Throwball contest. Squeaky-bum time!
