Nat’l Ice Cream Day now. The Best Ice Cream in La-La Land was at the old Gresescent in DTLA. Now, much closer for our purposes and still more than good enough, is the Studio City outpost of McConnell’s, the Southern California creamery founded in 1949 in Santa Barbara. Highly recommended is the Whiskey & Pecan Pralines. Very good.

DO NOT GO TO THE PORTLAND-BASED HIPSTER JOINT DOWN THE STREET. DO NOT DO IT. McConnell’s only, earnest & unironical & nonhipster, best for families and earnest people. STAY AWAY FROM THE PORTLAND-BASED HIPSTER JOINT. GO ONLY TO McConnell’s. Thank you!

BestLine Racing Society Recap

Late in reporting from Saturday was Race 10 from Saratoga.

That race was tabbed as a patented Live Longshot Race by the BestLine Racing Society, and this time they were not wrong!

Two horses at 8-1 or higher on the morning line were recommended: #3 Great Navigator (.172 Win Prob / 4.81-1 Fair Odds / 5.98-1 Premium Odds)  and #6 Mo Strike (.127 / 6.87 / 8.45).

The ’Navigator went off at 18½-1, a definite play up top. ’Mo was 8.20-1, a little low for the Premium Odds playable designation but well above the Fair Odds advisory.

They ran one-two, with the exacta returning $311.50, for $2. The premium pay for this comboa (comboa!) was $117.96, for $2. Well worth the risk, this time.

Full disclosure: #5 Curly Jack (.159 / 5.29 / 6.55) also was worth a win-overlay wager at 8-1. Thank you.

So far on Sunday, BestLine has come through with the following generous-paying prices:

Race 1 at Canterbury had #7 Weareinittowinit (.216 / 3.63 / 4.56) winning at $12.60. Runner-up #5 Stillwater Brown (.296 / 2.38 / 3.05) completed the $38.40 exacta; the premium pay was $36.93.

Over at the Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., Race 3 had #9 Jesters Honor (.189 / 4.29 / 5.35) winning at $24.60 in one of  ’em patented BestLine Racing Society patented Live Longshot races.

A low-priced overlay prevailed in Etobicoke, Ont., Canada in Race 3 at Woodbine, another patented BestLine Racing Society Live Longshot race. #5 Poulin in O T (.285 / 2.51 / 3.21) won at $8.50.

Canterbury 5 had Live Longshot recommendation #7 Cousvinnyscanuck (.217 / 3.61 / 4.53) winning at $17-even. The exacta with #5 Bayou Benny (.245 / 3.08 / 3.90) was generously priced at $50.80.

The nightcap at Monmouth found #3 Shanghai Warrior (.180 / 4.10 / 6.78) upsetting the proceedings at $40-even. The $112.60 exacta with #5 We Ready (.196 / 4.10 / 6.14) was worthwhile, too.

The exacta in the Woodbine nightcap should have paid $124.52 to satisfy the minimum requirements for a premium payoff. It paid $239.40 when #1 View From Egbert (.144 / 5.94 / 8.72) beat #11 Mia and Me (.168 / 4.95 / 6.14).

One race to go from Saratoga this afternoon. If anything good happens in it, you’ll hear about it here tomorrow.

This evening’s track is The Prairie.
