Trojan force

Last night was the 50th anniversary of the annual ‘Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks’ over at the local amphitheater. As always, the Marching Band from the Univ. of So. Calif. added oomph to the finale, the 1812 Overture.

Also on the programme was Act IV of Swan Lake. That was high drama! The typmanist could not have been more emphatic with his percussion; as well, the low brass brought the dread. Overall, one can imagine those infernal surprise severe-weather events at Saratoga sounding similar, rumbling with Mother Nature’s idea of the tympani and low brass.
