New Frida Kahlo subject matter: Mexican woman with toy xylophone for a head!

Nice programme last night at the amphitheater. Though the conditions would have made for an impressive mass-deportation, no one was ‘sent back’.

Las Cafeteras opened for The Gipsy Kings. The former were like the old 10,000 Maniacs group if they had been brought up in the barrio instead of in upstate New York; however, you could also see and hear the Rage Against The Machine-inspired, ‘¡viva la raza!’ defiance and spirit in the Las Cafeteras set. The Gipsy Kings have gotten older since their heyday, so it was like having the Three Tenors (or at least their girth) up on the stage flanked by a wall of machine-precise strumming — powerful, incessant, perfect, as though the acoustic guitars were percussion instruments! Of course, dancing was mandatory. High-energy, and, again, no one was sent back. Thank you!

Yesterday:

Hastings 7
#8 Attitude Included (13-1 but paid $11.70 as part of a dead-heat for the win; BestLine Fair Odds 5.21-1)

Laurel 3
#3 Ice Rain ($35.80, BestLine Fair Odds 5.45-1)

Gulf 6 (Low-Priced Overlay of the Day)
#2 Take Charge Dude ($8.40, BestLine Fair Odds 2.13-1)

Seven win-overlay stabs over two selected Saratoga races yesterday. No bueno, hombre. No bueno.
