Manic Monday! After Middle Sunday! Ladies & gentlemen, The All-England Lawn Tennis Club, also known, to commoners, anyway, as Wimbledon! Today, everybody who’s left plays!

Yesterday:

Gulf 11
#7 Charlotte the Brit ($44, BestLine Fair Odds 7.26-1)

Los Alamitos Thoroughbreds 6
#6 Taste’s Legend ($22.80, BestLine Fair Odds 2.46-1)

Mountain 7
#8 Smooch My Indy ($21.60, BestLine Fair Odds 2.66-1)

Pleasanton 6
#5 Moon Rocket ($20.20, BestLine Fair Odds 4.95-1)

Woodbine 1
#1 Carmenootz ($20.60, BestLine Fair Odds 5.90-1)

Belmont 5 (Low-Priced Overlay of the Day)
#4 Star of the East ($9.30, BestLine Fair Odds 2.86-1)

Two selected Presque races last night, four win-overlay wagers, including a runner-up finish by a dirty nose at 7-1. Next time! (N.B. The winner in the other race was positive-expectation, but only at 15pc — insufficient!)

Today:

Presque 4, 5, 7. Also, just like the British call their big golf tourney ‘The Open’, they call this thing at Wimbledon ‘The Championships’. These British! They take a dim view of ostentation and showiness. Also, at the big snob schools like Dalton and Lawrenceville and Miss Porter’s, etc., the prevailing ethos is to see that your name appears in the papers only thrice: at birth, at marriage and at death — the antithesis of the requirements of the SOcial MEdia age, which requires letting people know what you’re up to three times every hour on the hour! Now, no word if these old British/Scottish preppie standard operating procedures of maintaining a low public profile are also in effect at the prestigious New York Military Acad. Who went to New York Military Acad. again? Oops!
