All right, all right, ya’ Prog Rock fans! Take it easy! This is really because today is Nat’l. Camera Day. Shoot ’em up! Shoot ’em!
Just so happens we are right in the middle of Christo. Isherwood’s The Berlin Stories right about now, and one of the early lines in the ‘A Berlin Diary Autumn 1930’ goes: ‘I am a camera with its shutter open, quite passive, recording, not thinking. …Some day, all this will have to be developed, carefully printed, fixed.’
How quaint. ‘Developed, carefully printed, fixed’. Quaint, yes, but also sheer genius. Genius! Ladies & gentlemen, Christo. Isherwood…ISHERWOOD…
Speaking of Germans & Their Cameras, you ever shoot with a Leica or a Rollei? Yes, Hasselblad is Swedish, but close enough, too. Remember depressing the shutter button on the old Nikon F? That thing was solid, like a piston on a trumpet. You could not misfire.
Now everyone has a camera in their pocket, but there’s still something to be said for the correct metering, white balance, focal length, etc. Here’s to the Holy Trinity of ISO, aperture & shutter-speed! SHOOT ’EM UP! SHOOT ’EM! SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT!
