Wait…it’s only just starting now!

All right, all right, ya’ big, beautiful Belmont Park lovers! Take it easy! (Horseracing snapshots — what are those again?)

Love the friezes all around the place at Elmont, N.Y. There’s the Triple Crown commemorations along the railing in the paddock, painted with the colors of the winners and runners-up. And how about those memorial plaques situated every few feet on the redbrick grandstand? The place really is a shrine to racing; it’s similar to seeing the Stations of the Cross in a Roman Catholic church, these friezes and memorial plaques all over the place there at big, beautiful Belmont Park. A shrine to racing. Long may it live.

N.B. Miss Tom Durkin, though. Tom Durkin #1 always. Too much nostalgia. Friezes, plaques, Stations of the Cross. Horseracing as religion. Angel (Cordero Jr.), pray for us!
