Tradition ahead of timeliness. Yes, Game 7 tonight, but as we do on All Saints’ Day each year, we present this gorgeous song from the immortal Stephen Malkmus. Enjoy!

Tonight, one of these teams gets eternal veneration, is bodily assumed into baseball heaven, is forever inscribed in the Hagiography of The National Pastime; the other merely suffers the martyr’s fate, perhaps an upside-down crucifixion, no exhibit in the reliquary. Play ball!

Last night (all times PDT), as heard somewhere in the vicinity between Nichols Canyon and Laurel Canyon:

5:20-7:23 p.m. — Palpitations and vapors! Vapors and palpitations!

7:24 p.m. — ‘I LOVE YOU, CHRIS TAYLOR. I LOVE YOU.’

7:26 p.m. — ‘I LOVE YOU, COREY SEAGER. I LOVE YOU.’

7:51 p.m. — ‘I LOVE YOU, JUSTIN TURNER. I LOVE YOU, CODY BELLINGER. I LOVE YOU, KENTA MAEDA. I LOVE ALL THREE OF YOU.’

7:59 p.m. — ‘I LOVE YOU, JOC PEDERSON. I LOVE YOU.’

8:43 p.m. — ‘I LOVE YOU, KENLEY JANSEN. I LOVE YOU.’

If that’s the last thing Chase UTlEy (Harry Kalas: ‘Chase Utley, you are the man!’) does on a baseball diamond, getting hit by a pitch (what else?) and scoring the deciding run in a must-win game for his team in the World Series, well…ALLAH BLESS YOU, CHASE UTLEY! CHASE UTLEY, YOU ARE THE MAN!

Calder 8 might not be wild enough. Same goes for Delta 2, Delta 7, Hawthorne 8, Mahoning 5.

But Delta 10, Hawthorne 2, Hawthorne 5, Hawthorne 6, PennNat 2, Remington 5, Remington 9 appear to be tossups.

Goodnight and good besuboru/béisbol!
