Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Should be OK for #1 Omi in Hastings 4. Two races later there, it’s wild-open, wild-open, and we bypass the top two morning-line choices and go instead with #3 Always Sunny, #8 Coulterberry, #1 Dashing Don.

Yesterday’s Activity: We know you were there, Richard. Your boy wore some of your earthly remains around his neck. A Great Spirit blessed the whole event, and everyone was filled with pride for your boy and his new bride. We who survive you have all seen the worst of each other’s behavior at times, but we have endured and counted ourselves fortunate to be able to bear witness to the best of what we can be at a few magic moments. This was one of them. Your boy has lived through a lot, has taken it all in and developed into a truly self-made and self-sufficient individual. We have all played some small part, but the credit is all his. He is a modern-day Midas, really, and you can tell everything he touches will turn to gold in all senses of that word. ‘Attaboy, Sammie!’ you would exhort in your own rapid-fire Brooklyn delivery, and you would not be wrong. The best any father can hope for is for his boy to exceed his father’s standing. It is a high bar you set, of course, but your boy is well on his way — no turning back now. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us. Rest easy, Richard, rest easy. He has made it through.
