Nerd rhymes…

Yup. Weird Al has fetishist followers too, and they put on red berets, Hawaiian shirts, T-shirts depicting their hero in the likeness of Che Guevara. Who knew?

Cosplay aside, the man has been an indefatigable Force of Parody for many years now, and his influence on other satirically-oriented entertainment is undeniable, too. In the middle of the set, he performed a sendup of the MTV Unplugged format, with Eat It, Like a Surgeon and I Lost on Jeopardy! (!) getting the acoustic treatment. The pre-encore finale was The Saga Begins, and the nerds could barely be contained, so great was their appreciation. Who knew?

Yesterday’s Activity:

Track (Win Mutuels $20+/Gettable)

Albuquerque (0/0) — Shooting at Walmart parking lot in S.E. Albuquerque sends person to hospital.

Arlington (2/2) — A contentious Race 4 went to Two Minute Man, strong on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis at 87; he went gate-to-wire to win by 2¾ at $22-even. In Race 6, not contentious, Jicote had a competitive 84 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis, and so was good enough for your garden variety High-Octane Chancers. Jicote rallied like the champion he’s on his way to becoming, yet lost by a dirty neck at 12-1; however, the stewards saw some sort of interference hindering Jicote, and they placed him first at $26.80. Good work.

Arapahoe (1/1) — Race 8 was not contentious, but High-Octane Chancers noticed the OK 85 on the LifeLiner Speed Column analysis on Good Samurai; he raced belly-to-wire anyway, winning by 3¾ at $20.20. Good work.

Assiniboia (0/0) — Moose Jaw police find man seriously injured.

Belterra (2/1) — No Holdem Poker had a field-best 82 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis in a noncontentious Race 3, so High-Octane Chancers were necessary to take the risk; he went gate-to-wire to win by 1¾ at $23.60. Good work.

Canterbury (1/0) — Visiting Twins edge Boston, 2-1; Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano each had 3 hits and an RBI.

Chas. Town (1/1) — A noncontentious Race 2 had My Kansas Girl interesting the High-Octane Chancers via a fine number on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis; she did not go gate-to-wire but won anyway by a clean half-length at $29.60. Good work.

Del Mar (1/1) — Publicly touted Miss Loujean had your field-best 89 on the LifeLiner Spread Column analysis in a wide-open Race 4; she was not able to go gate-to-wire, though she did win by a clean neck at $34.60. Good work.

Ellis Park (1/0) — Henderson Co. to host professional championship rodeo.

Emerald (2/1) — Dual Qualifier Will Not (95, 93) ruled a contentious Race 2; she did not go gate-to-wire but won by 2½ anyway, at $23.60. Good work.

In a wildly contentious Race 10, Won Eye Jet was no worse than any of the others in a formless LifeLiner Spread Column analysis; he rallied like the champion he’s on his way to becoming, winning by a clean neck at $43.60. Good work.

Grand Prairie (0/0) — News sources unchanged since July 12.

Hazel (0/0) — Tigers beat host White Sox, 7-5; Miguel Cabrera had 4 hits and 2 RBI for Detroit.

Hastings (0/0) — Alcohol suspected factor in Surrey ice-cream truck crash.

Los Alamitos (0/0) — Visiting Los Angeles de Los Angeles of Anaheim & Orange Co. edged by Houston, 2-1; Andrelton Simmons drove-in the only Anaheim run.

Louisiana (2/0) — 2 suspects sought in homicide of Shreveport man.

Laurel (1/0) — Orioles beat visiting Cleveland, 5-1; Mark Trumbo hit his 29th HR, a 3-run shot, for Balto.

Marquis (1/0) — Oil spill North Sask. River nears Prince Albert.

Monmouth (0/0) — West Nile virus feared to be in Monmouth Co.

Northlands (1/½) — Old-School Champeens were OK with top-billed Highway Holly in a noncontentious Race 6; she went gate-to-wire to win by 1½ at $44.20. Old-School Champeens, good work.

PennNat (2/1) — Race 7 was not contentious, but there was a Dual Qualifier in there! Lee’s South (91, 94) was not a gate-to-wire winner, but a 1¾-length winner nonetheless; he paid $44.60. Good work.
