Hoo-boy. Thus marks the end of the most liberal progressive week in U.S. history. Now what?

Media — TV, music, news programmes, etcsz. — nowadays overwrought. Poppie songs such as this one from 25 years ago sound good — not emo and weepy like today’s lachrymose dirges — yet still manage to tackle their subjects with some degree of import.

Take the work seriously, but never yourself. That is, nobody is bigger than the game. Keep your head down, and play it right.

Free ones: Rundown…

Belmont 5, 7, 8, 9, 10
Gulfstream Park Proper 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10
Santa Anita 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10

Pay-side (Weekend/Weekday): Today…

Arlington 5, 7, 8
BelTerra 2, 5
Churchill 1, 2, 5, 9, 10
Delpark 2, 4, 6, 7, 9
Louisiana 2, 5, 6, 7, 8
Lone Star 5, 8, 9
Monmouth 6, 7, 9, 11
Woodbine 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Belmont 9, Santa Anita 8, 9 on the free page. On the pay-side it’s Churchill 9, Monmouth 11, Woodbine 8.

No Truman in the field to thwart #8 Dewey in Arapahoe 8, but the poor guy still might not win; he has an OK chance, though.

Sidestepping the morning-line fave in Churchill 6, going instead with #8 Show Bound, #2 Patrick Rocks, #5 Shoot Craps. Same wild strategy applies in the seventh: #7 Thievery, #5 Cosmic Evolution, #8 Don’t Boss Me, #6 Areolite.

Pick a number — any number — in Keystone 8. Just make sure the odds attached to that number are at least two digits in length.

Prairie 5 has #1 Sweet Success in with a decent-enough possibility to run to that billing. Likewise #5 Lucky Stranger in the sixth. Likewise #8 Jessica’s Star, #3 Call Me George in the seventh.

#8 Circle Can Run can also win Thistle 7 at a fine price.

Yesterday’s Activity: Three f&uacutetbol gamesz, three nailbitersz. Ryne Sandberg out, Rubén Amaro Jnr. next — please!
