Remington 1, 4, 5, 6, 7

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: None today, but let’s see how it turns out for Roger Goodell & The Shield. Not For Long? We figure they’ll find some kind of narrative en route to exculpability. They got a lot of genius marketers and lawyers over there. The attorneys always devise a plausible scheme. Right, Oscar, right O.J.?

Yesterday’s Activity: As always, Welcome to The Home of The Runner-Up Finish, this time nearly led by Second Bonkersmate Vicky Ticky Tavie in Laurel 7.

’Vicky, 20-1 on the morning line and without Fair Odds on the conventional V6 Betting Line in a contentious race, nonetheless qualified for consideration via her adequate 83 in the LifeLiner Speed Column.

Going off at 60¢ shy of 20-1, ’Vicky led in the final furlong before succumbing late, losing by half a length. The horse who beat her was not toutable, owing to her low 4½-1 odds on the morning line; yet this winner was indeed the best-scoring horsey in the LifeLiner Speed Column (94), and this saver exacta of 4½-1 (third-choice in the public wagering) on top of 19-1 paid $315.40, for $2. The third- and fourth-place finishers also were LifeLiner-eligible, with the trizacta coming back $2,593 (for $2), and the super-duper returning $5,803.70 (for $1).

Also running with honour without winning at Laurel was sole-touted Margaret Ownzit in the fourth.

’Margaret, 12-1 on the morning line and 10-1 in real life, led throughout and shook away by nearly four lengths with a furlong to go. She didn’t make it, getting tagged at the wire by a dirty nose by an even ranker longshot. Oh, well.

Winners were Why Not Be Queen, $17.60, in Delpark 4; Kittihawa, $14.10, in Woodbine 8; and First Bonkersmate Nick Markakis, $28.40 in Laurel 9.

In that Nick Markakis race, top-touted Caboppo, also 13-1, ran second to complete your winning $206 Bonkers Exacta Box.

Finally, the Nick Markis race at Laurel and the Kittihawa race at Woodbine were the last events of the day at their tracks, making this a DOUBLE KING OF THE NIGHTCAP NETCAPPER BULLIESZ SPECIAL. BULLIESZ.
