We don’t normally shill for any particular professional sports teams outside Philalala or Islington, nor do we usually jump on the proverbial bandwagon, but we have to admit that we have been paying attention to your 2014 Los Angeles Kingsz. Regretsz!
The forced storylines are many: Will NYC thwart LA? Not just in the hockey, but the sweeping 1½-mile circumference of NYC vs. the bullring of LA (Los Alamitos)? The Kingsz of the 1970s, Jack Clark Kent Cooke and all that, had a great First Line offense called the Triple Crown Line, you know. That was when their colours were purple and gold (just like another Los Angeles sports team long since forgotten!) and those purple-and-gold jerseys had the team’s original logo, a simple crown, on the front — hence the Triple Crown Line.
Now we have Cali. Chrome shooting for the Triple Chrome on Saturday. Too much alignment here, the symmetry is irresistible. It looks too good.
Forced storylines, NYC vs. LA. Rangers vs. Kingsz. California Chrome vs. NYRA. The Southland competitors seem too strong nowadays, whether on skates or hooves. NYC may not recover, unless Mayor de Blasio can make things ‘more equal’. Kingsz will be pouring giant non-diet sodas into the Stanley Cup, Cali.
