Today’s Stakes Pageantry: None today, but your World Serious for 2013 opens tonight in Boston. We root for the visitors.

Yesterday’s Activity: Speaking of The Legume City, it was a good time yesterday at the Suffolk Downs.

Race 5 had lone-touted Southern Tap winning at $26.60 as the fifth-choice in the eight-horse field. At 10-1 on the morning line, Southern Tap was fourth-best on the Betting Line, Fair Odds of 6-1 in a contentious race. Obvious horseys, both of whom were LifeLiner qualifiers, completed the exacta and trifecta at $66-even and $487 (both for $2), respectively.

Then in Race 7, seven horseys were touted. We cannot deny it. At least this time, they did OK. Thank allah for small favors. Third Bonkersmate True Chick, 13-1 in real life from a morning line of 12-1, went gate-to-wire as befit her solid, all-around 86-85-85 LifeLiner array. She held on by half a length at $28.40.

The runner-up was the top-touted Ganza, and the exacta returned $119.20. The third-place finisher was Fourth Bonkersmate Cove Bay, and the trifecta returned $850.60. Both prices are quoted for $2.
