Bonjour, mademoiselles!

Free ones: Rundown…

Belmont 1, 3, 6, 7, 9

Pay-side: Today…

Arlington 6, 9
Churchill 8, 9, 10
Louisiana 3, 4, 5, 7, 8
Laurel 7, 8, 9
Remington 1, 4, 6, 7
Woodbine 7, 9

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Barreplex 9 is the Bangles and Beads (What? No baubles?), and #1 Lady Rosamond is a Triple Threat Horsey.

RP 4 is on the pay-side. In the very next race there, #4 Agent should be too good.

Yesterday’s Activity: A Ned Reldem, Esq., sighting! He writes from his garret in Loudon Co., Va., home to all the oligarchs such as himself:

“Anyway it had been a dreary day until this race only one win on a TTH but I have to look it up. I think we would agree this was worth a shot. Anyway non-contentious race with a bunch of mediocre lifeliner horses only one qualified on the betting line at 84 and was overbet down to 3-5 (fair odds at 5-1). 9 horse field.

“I put [some money] on the top of the betting line that was 77 on lifeliner and at bet odds of 6-1. I put another 2 on the other top 2 lifeliners one at 89 Dan’s Last Stand that was 14-1 when I decided and the other Just Got In at 79 which was at 40-1 when I decided and went off at 50-1.

“Boxed those 3 for my first exacta of the day (best part of the day is not doing exacta as I said this was the first one). That did not win but wouldn’t you know it Just Got In did win paying $115.00 so it should be another [winning day] hopefully I can pick up another win or two on the late races.”

Later on, we all had some joy via LaD 7 and the great Quiet Acceleration, 17-1 up top.

But Att. Reldem has made a larger point about the LifeLiner. Instead of our hard-and-fast absolutes regarding the Speed Column (to wit, LifeLiner Speed Column 80 or higher), why not a relative approach, just in case there are not that many 80-plus LifeLiner horseys? In other words, in a junky-type race, why not a top-three or so finish in the LifeLiner?

In the Delpark King of the NetCapper Bulliesz race Att. Reldem mentioned, Just Got In was a LifeLiner 79, shy a point on the absolute but in the top 3 there.

Needless to say, Att. Reldem is engaging in some creative, LSAT-style problem-solving here, and it is working! He is putting his beginner’s mind to the challenge at hoof and coming up with wild winnersz, obscenely wild! His mantra is: if you can make your case for your potential 30-, 40- or 50-1 and up runnersz, go for it. They don’t need a preponderance of evidence. Just a glimmer of hope.

Right now, Att. Reldem is an exciting addition to the day-after analyses of this here Weblog. He has injected a lot of youthful verve and enthusiasm into our postings. We are grateful for his Yasiel Puig-type presence in the lineup. Sometimes you have to pull a Donny Beisbol on him and sit him down for a little chat, but more often than not Ned Reldem, Esq., has been a net-gain for the squad. Good job.
