Today’s Stakes Pageantry: #4 Flat Out deserves Triple Threat Horsey status in Bel 8, the Grade II Suburban. Same goes for #1 Battier (thought he was retired!) in the next race, the Grade II Dwyer.

The Acme of Alacrity is going on today at the Calder, and Race 9 & 10, respectively the Grade II Smile and the Grade I Princess Rooney, are on the free page.

Wild today at that Calder, and Race 6 is the Umphrey. Trying for a nonfavored Default Trifecta Box of #5 Madame Giry, #7 Silver Cloud, #8 Regally Ready.

Back to sanity in the next race, the Grade III Carry Back: #1 R Free Roll is a Triple Threat Horsey. Also a Triple Threat Horsey in Crc 8, the Grade III Azalea, but at way-better odds: #6 Guadalupe High.

Crc 11 is the Hollywood Wildcat, and a Default Exacta Box emerges through #11 Awesome Belle, #6 Angelica Zapata.

Looks strong for #4 Balooga Bull in AsD 6.

Big doings this evening at Evangeline! A quartet of big-priced contenders looms in the fourth: #4 Tupelo Playboy, #8 Ryland T, #7 Chad Be Glad, #11 Cousin Kevin. Stay on the turf!

Next race there, #7 Lattin Devil, #4 Palmy Bay, #9 Hero Force are a nonfavored trio to ponder.

Next race there, #6 Miss Goodthing, #8 Afternoon Tango appear to be live, and save with #5 Sittin At the Bar.

Next race there, the selfsame #9 Sittin at the Bar is a lone standout. So probably he should choose to run in the seventh and not in the sixth!

Next race there, #7 Top Cat Boogie, #11 Unitas (!) are the longshots, and #5 Southern Dude is a sensible protector.

Next race there, #4 Look At the Time is a solid solitary selection.

Yesterday’s Activity: Archie Trucker, 8-1 morning line and just 20 cents below that on the toteboard, attended the pace throughout (LifeLiner array: 85-99-99) to win by a length-and-a-quarter at $17.60. That was Race 6 at the Ellis Park.

Brite Desire, 12-1 on the morning line and 19-1 at the off, found daylight all the way around the 1m70y trip in the fifth at Louisiana, winning off by 3 lengths. This was redeemable for a $40.40 win mutuel; twice as good in foresight as in hindsight! Hahahahaha!

Of course, this is Cynthia Publishing and thus we are forced to extend you the following: “Welcome to The Home of The Runner-Up Finish”. Last night’s nearly-was was Golly Gin in Cnl 4. She was 12-1 morning line and 19-1 toteboard and defeated by a LifeLiner nonqualifier. Thanks a lot, Moonovermanhattan! Thanks a lot!

“Nocturnal Submission” was also swinging for the nighttime fences, and so it was with runner-up Spectacular Slew, 9-1 (9-1!) on the morning line and 22-1 in real life (or, IRL for all you Interwebsz hipstersz). ’Slew beat eight others in the 10-horse field, missing by a dirty neck for all the loonies (remember, this one was run at Marquis Downs). This time, though, the horse who won was obvious (8-5 IRL) and a LifeLiner contender, with the saver exacta coming back CA$34.50. WHAT A SECOND! WHAT? CA$34.50?! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? IN A 10-HORSE FIELD, 22-1 RUNNER-UP. WHAT?! THANKS A LOT, HIDDENENTRIES! THANKS A ^&*@@$$# LOT! DEPRESSING THE MUTUELS, ALL SIX OF YOU GUYS! ALL SIX OF YOU, WHAT?! ISN’T THERE SOMETHING BETTER TO BE DOING THAN STAYING UP TILL MIDNIGHT EDT USA TO PLAY MARQUIS DOWNS? THANKS A LOT! Ugh. You guys. Don’t spend it all in one place. Ugh.
