Juicy, sweet, tangy…

Today is National Onion Ring Day. Huzzah! Good onion rings are always in fashion. No, not the kind from Kingburger or Hardee’s Jr. Where’s the onion in those guysz? You might actually be eating fried insect by-products! Crispy crittersz!

Big, bracelet-sized onions rings always are the best. Dunkin’ Donuts-sized onion rings. Batter is a no-no. Not even beer-batter. The batter too quickly gets soggy. Ugh. Dredge in a little flour, maybe a little beaten egg, then the crispy, fine breadcrumbs on top. That is an onion ring that will explode in your mouth. Between the deep-fried crunch of the breadcrumbs and the natural juiciness of the tender onion beneath…nummie.

Please, no batter. Batter-dipped onion rings always end up a soggy mess, more coating than onion. Simple flour-dusted fried onions are OK, but they are a different beast altogether. Best are oversized, bracelet-style, Dunkin’ Donuts-type onion rings with a crispy, crunchy coating that does not interfere but rather complements the taste of onion itself. Tyvm.

Free ones: Rundown…

Belmont 3, 5, 8
Calder 8, 10
BFHollyPark 4

Pay-side: Today…

Delpark 2, 3, 4, 5, 7
Churchill 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11
Louisiana 5, 6, 10
Lone Star 4, 5, 8
Monmouth 2, 4, 8, 10
Woodbine 2, 9, 10

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Crc 10, Gomez Mem., over on the free page.

In the other Calder stakes, Race 9, #2 Sweetmarys Success seems prohibitive.

Grade I Mother Goose over at Bel 10 now, and it’s Triple Threat Horsey status for #2 Dreaming of Julia. MOTO hoss. MOTO. #3 Close Hatches is the logical second-choice. Ugh.

CD 7 on the pay-side.

WO 8 is the juvenile Victoria, and #4 No Fruit Degroote looks too groote.

Assiniboia has a good, contentious added-money race in its seventh, and #1 Divine Wisdom and #8 Wise Defender look OK.

Cnl 5, the Da Hoss, might be playable without the faves. Trying #3 Alajwad Dancer and #1 Action Andy.

CT 8, and #2 Jax and JILL doesn’t appear vulnerable.

Decent Default Exacta Box candidates in Pen 3: #4 Power of Snunner, #1 Lenape Rim. On the other hoof, two races later there, the fifth, a Bonkers Box scenario emerges via #7 Black Chevron, #3 Andrew L.

Likewise in Pha 9, where Bonkersmates #9 Candyman E and #6 Private Tale are not out of it.

WMF Report:

Thanks, Sindy. We probably will just blow it up and try again. There’s nothing good on there. Our culture and our users’s collective mindset seems against overwrought public displays. This is fine. Doing > posting, right? Maybe not!
