Dated and cheesy. Indeed, ultra-dated and ultra-cheesy. Yet there can be no denying its effectiveness in providing an emotional reset from time to time. Hey now, you’re a rockstar…

Only shooting stars break the mold…zOMG!

Also, 25 years ago (25!) in the Preakness…Risen Star! Thank you, Louie Roussel 3d. Thank you for your humility and your spirituality. Thank you for defeating the Evil Empire of Klein & Lukasz. Thank you for the win overlay and also to Brian’s Time for completing a nice exacta and keeping the overbet horses out of the top two placings.

Once again, thank you, Louie Roussel 3d for your humility and your spirituality. We remember your joking to the racing media about how when Risen Star would neigh or whinny, the horse was really saying, ‘Take me to Charlie Whittingham’. God bless you, Louie! You knew all along what you had in your care yet you never let it get to you! Yes, you underplayed it beautifully in that sly way that all Cajuns do! God bless you, Louie! Wonder if you are still attending Sunday evening Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Church on St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans. Memories…

Free ones: Rundown…

Belmont 1, 4, 7, 8
Calder 8, 11
BFHollyPark 3, 7, 9, 10

Pay-side: Today…

Monmouth 7, 9, 10, 11

Louisiana 5, 6, 7, 9, 10

Good racing today. Yeah!

Today’s Stakes Pageantry: Continued best wishes today at Pimlico.

BFHollyPark 10, the Grade II Everett, is on the free page.

Before that one, though, there’s Race 5, the Fran’s Valentine, and #1 Top Kisser has attained vaunted Triple Threat Horsey status.

Uh-oh. Vaunted Triple Threat Horsey status accorded to #6 Disco Barbie in Del 8 (Hello, Stanton!), the Our Mims, 2d Div.

Prairie 7 is the Bob Bryant, and #5 Jumped the Harbor appears to be a low-priced overlay as your third-choice on the morning line.

SunRay 8 is the Giant Beer Co. Allowance. Mild chance to longshot #3 Ten Plush.

The eighth at Woodbine is the Ballade, and #12 Moonlit Beauty has vaunted Triple Threat Horsey status.

Playing around the fave in the 10th at The WRD, the Distaff. In it, #5 Ribbon of Darkness emerges as a viable upsetter, and #3 Diamond Disco and #1 Foreign Sultress are capable in support.

After that one, it’s the 11th, the Cherokee Nation Classic Cup. #3 Ransom Roberto is not out of it; #8 Evansville Storm and #6 Agent also loom boldly.

On the pay-side is Mth 11, the Grade III Red Bank.

Elsewhere, as always, Welcome to The Home of The Runner-Up Finish, or in this case a Runner-Up to the Runner-Up.

That would be WO 5 and top-touted She’s Animated, 27-1 and a leader for a few hopeful strides in the stretch. No, she could not hold second, beaten a neck for the place. Good try.

One position better in WO 6, courtesy of Bay King, 10-1, finishing second to the 8-5 fave, who at least was top of LifeLiner, with the exactor returning CAN$38, a k a 38 Looniesz.

Also, here’s a good example of why you need to do this for yourself, lest the morning lines thwart your glory. Check out the last race from Lone Star. As you may know by now, we do not tout horseys that are lower than 8-1 on the morning line. Again, we figure you are good enough at handicapping to be able to do that for yourself. We prefer the fat prices.

So it was hard for us to get excited about eventual winner Sofie’s Pearl at 5-1 on the morning line. Just a matter of touting principle. Yet the Tejas (Tejas!) crowd and the rest of the mopesz let Sofie’s Pearl off at 9-1.

Umm, yeah. That’s a good play in real life, according to the real odds on the real toteboard, considering that Sofie’s Pearl had the untoppable 99 in the LifeLiner Speed Column in a contentious race. Boo on you, Lone Star track oddsmaker!

So, yes, this is why you really need to get this and be doing it for yourself. We can take you only so far. Or maybe all our clients are really saying, “Take me to Howard Sartinez”.

Oh, yeah, some winners: Race 7 at Arlington, Bonkersmate Salutethehero, 8-1 on the morning line and 12-1 at the off. Top LifeLiner Speed in a contentious race, $26.20; another LifeLiner qualifier completed the exacta, $260.40; familiarly, the show-horse did not coöperate. Thanks a lot!

Top-touted and Triple Threat Horsey Top Tizzy (Top!) was 8-1 on the morning line and just under that on the toteboard, $17.60 in the fifth at Golden Gate

Another top tout, Sinneron, 8-1 morning and 12-1 actual, took the fifth at Lone Star, $27-even.

“TAKE ME TO HOWARD SARTINEZ!”
